As the country and Franklin County residents continue to work through the COVID-19 pandemic, more vaccination opportunities are becoming available to the community. According to the PA Department of Health, approximately 30.3% of in Franklin County residents are fully vaccinated, while 38.7% of Pennsylvania residents are fully vaccinated. To reach herd immunity, at least 70% of the population would need to be vaccinated. Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer vaccines can be found at various locations throughout the state and here in Franklin County. You can find vaccination opportunities closest to you here.
More data and additional information about the vaccine is also being gathered and shared with community members. According to WellSpan Health experts, recent hospitalizations show only a small number of those vaccinated require a hospital stay. In April, only seven of the 476 COVID-19 patients admitted to WellSpan hospitals were vaccinated. Of those seven, only four were fully vaccinated, and they all had severely suppressed immune systems. In other words, 469 of the 476 COVID-19 patients who needed hospital care weren’t vaccinated.
WellSpan Health has administered more than 325,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to date. You can schedule your vaccination through MyWellSpan or by calling the COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline at 1-855-851-3641. Find more information on WellSpan’s recent vaccination data here and their COVID-19 Information Center here.
